Certified Test, Adjust, and Balance Technician (NEBB or Equivalent)

Full-Time / OR CONTRACT

Location: Cary, NC

About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced Test, Adjust, and Balance (TAB) Technician to join our growing team. Key Responsibilities
  • Perform independent TAB work on commercial and critical environment HVAC systems.
  • Lead or support field teams on cleanroom, laboratory, and pharmaceutical facility projects.
  • Conduct airflow, pressure, temperature, and system performance testing using calibrated instruments.
  • Produce accurate, professional TAB reports that meet NEBB standards and project requirements.
  • Communicate with clients, engineers, and contractors to resolve issues and ensure project success.
 
Requirements
  • NEBB TAB Technician Certification (or eligible and willing to obtain within a defined time).
  • Minimum 2 years of field experience. (in addition to TAB experience, experience in the following would be considered: Cleanroom testing, HVAC commissioning, and certification of biological safety cabinets)
  • Strong understanding of HVAC system design, airflow, pressurization, and control systems.
  • Experience working in regulated or critical environments (pharma, biotech, hospitals, etc.) preferred.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Excellent communication, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.

HVAC Test & Balance / Cleanroom Certification Technician (Entry-Level)

FULL TIME, MONDAY - FRIDAY
  • Occasional weekends or travel depending on project schedule

Location: Raleigh–Durham, NC area (travel to job sites required)

About the Role

Empire Technical Services is seeking a motivated individual interested in learning the highly specialized field of Cleanroom Testing and Certification, Test, Adjust & Balance of HVAC Systems, HEPA Filter Certifications, and Certifications of Biological Safety Cabinets. This position involves on-the-job training alongside experienced professionals who perform technical testing of airflow systems, HEPA filters, and cleanroom performance to verify compliance with strict industry standards.

This is a hands-on position that combines mechanical systems, instrumentation, and problem-solving in controlled environments such as pharmaceutical production facilities, laboratories, and hospitals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in performing air and water balancing on HVAC systems
  • Learn to use instruments such as micromanometers, airflow hoods, and photometers
  • Support Cleanroom performance testing including HEPA filter leak testing, airflow visualization, and room pressurization
  • Record and interpret test data accurately for reports
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with clients and team members
  • Troubleshoot field challenges and develop solutions to ensure accurate results
  • Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, professional workspace
  • Travel to customer sites as needed (typically local/regional)
 
Requirements/Qualifications

(Preferred, not all required — ideal for someone mechanically inclined who wants to learn a trade)

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate or technical degree a plus
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn technical procedures
  • Basic understanding of HVAC systems or construction environment helpful
  • Strong problem-solving and customer service skills
  • Comfortable using tools, ladders, and test instruments
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow precise procedures
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work on-site in varying environments
  • Must be dependable, professional, and safety-oriented
